These groups vary and are usually simply social groups. This can be an excellent opportunity to meet some new people from your community. Now, on to how to meditate.
Get Comfortable
First, you will need to find a calm, quiet, and comfortable place to meditate. This is often easier said than done in modern urban life, but you should be able to figure something out. If a quiet spot is simply not possible then get some headphones and listen to calming instrumental music, avoid anything with lyrics, though, this can make focusing difficult.
Concentrate
There are many different forms of meditation, but this article is going to focus on one of the easier ones for beginners, concentration meditation. The goal here is to focus on a single point and not let your mind wander. By focusing on a single point, you can improve your focus. This method is also great for stress relief since it forces you to focus on something other than what is stressing you out.
If you find that your mind begins to wander, don’t be concerned. Many beginners are only able to maintain this level of focus for a few minutes, but eventually, build up to longer times. When you do notice, you mind wandering just refocus on your original focal point.
While this is a great starting place for beginners, but it is a very broad introduction to a single type of meditation. If you are interested in exploring the other methods finding a local group can help you get started.
