Not everybody who drinks every day is an alcoholic and everybody who is an alcoholic does not drink every day. There are people who have a glass of wine with dinner at night and they never have a problem. Then there are the people who might only drink once or twice a week, but for them that is a serious issue. There are three main types of problems that people have an alcohol: binge drinking, alcohol abuse, and alcohol dependence.

The Binge Drinker

Binge drinkers are those who consume large amounts of alcohol at one time. For men that is five or more drinks, for women four. Research has shown the drinking that much alcohol in a single sitting can do serious damage to your body and with repeated binges you run the risk of damaging your liver or suffering alcohol poisoning. If you are binge drinker you have an alcohol problem and are putting your life at risk. If you need help in stopping this behavior, there are rehabs in Oklahoma that can assist you.

When You Begin Abusing Alcohol

Going out and having a few drinks with friends is a normal occurrence, but when it begins to cause you serious consequences and you continue to drink, that is when you begin to abuse alcohol. If you continue to drink even though your work or school performance is suffering, you have been neglecting responsibilities, and may have even gotten into legal trouble, you’re headed down a serious path. Alcoholism is a progressive disease and if you do not get help now your problems will only intensify.

Alcohol Dependence

Alcohol abuse becomes dependence so quickly that you do not even realize that it is happening. At that point you begin to have physical cravings and develop a tolerance to the effects of alcohol. The worst part, if you don’t drink you will begin to have withdrawal symptoms.
